An Auckland based Pie Club member has been causing quite a stir at his workplace after running Fat Bastard Pies tasting sessions as team-building exercises.
Phil Myhole, a 35-year-old accountant, is a self-professed pie enthusiast and member of the nationwide Fat Bastard Pie Club.
"These pies were being delivered to his desk out of nowhere," said coworker, Susan Johnson. "We were all a bit confused, but then he let us try some and the word spread"
According to Phil, the pie-tasting sessions are a fun and delicious way to boost morale and camaraderie in the office. His coworkers rate each incoming delivery based on flavor, texture, and overall enjoyment.
"I think it's a great way to bring people together and create a sense of community in the office" said Phil. "it certainly fills my hole!"
But not everyone is a fan of the pie-tasting sessions. Some coworkers have expressed concerns about the disruption to their workday.
"It’s getting a bit excessive,” said coworker, Dave Williams. “Last week they had the whole team in the communal kitchen, no one was at their desks” Dave complained of the mess - crumbs everywhere and “what looked to be mince and cheese smeared across the light switch”.
Despite the mixed reactions, Phil remains committed to his pie-tasting sessions and has expanded the concept. In addition to bringing in Fat Bastards “Pie of the Month” into the mix, he's now encouraging his coworkers to find their own local "best pie" to go up against those from Fat Bastards.
As the excitement builds, rumors are swirling that Phil may even quit his job to pursue his passion for pies full-time, taking his pie tasting concept to other workplaces. “There is a whole market for team building workshops that I could fill,” said Phil.
